How to Download Videos from the Internet Archive

Most Internet Archive videos include a built‑in download menu. Here’s the simplest path: https://archive.org

1. Open the item page

Go to the page for the episode or clip you want.

2. Look for the “Download Options” box

It’s usually on the right side of the page.

3. Choose your preferred format

Common options include:

  • MP4 (best for editing)

  • OGG

  • H.264

  • MPEG4

Click the file you want, and it will download directly to your computer.

4. Import into your editing software

Once downloaded, you can drag the file into:

  • CapCut

  • DaVinci Resolve

  • Premiere Pro

  • iMovie

  • Or whatever editor you use

Important: How to Use These Clips Legally in Your YouTube Videos

Even though the Internet Archive hosts the files, they are not automatically public domain. But your channel’s content style — commentary, criticism, historical analysis — fits fair use extremely well.

To stay on the safe side:

✔ Use short excerpts

A few seconds at a time is ideal.

✔ Add your voiceover or on‑screen commentary

Transform the clip with your analysis.

✔ Avoid uploading long, unaltered scenes

That’s where copyright claims happen.

✔ Credit the show in your description

Example: “Clips used under fair use for commentary and review. Ironside (1967–1975).”
